Here are my stats:
Birth - 8 lbs 1/2 oz & 20 1/2 inches long
2 months- 12 lbs & 23 inches long
4 months - 16 lbs 6oz & 25 inches long
6 months - 19 lbs 3 oz. & 27 inches long*
*Still right around the 75th percentile for both height and weight.
- Eating my cereal, fruits and vegetables like a champ!
- I love apples, pears and bananas for fruit. And I love sweet potatoes, squash, & green beans.
- I am not sure about carrots and peas yet as I have only had them both once.
I really DO NOT like Peaches! (Mommy said they are gross too...she tastes everything before giving it to me the first time. Mommy says it is only fair.)
- Learning (while eating) that I can make noises with my mouth. This seems to result in my food ending up on Mommy. It makes me smile and Mommy does too, once she wipes it off her glasses!
- I am sitting up almost all by myself...I still have a few wobbles when I see something I want behind me.
- I am busy rolling over from my back to my tummy. While there, I move my legs like a frog, but Mommy doesn't think I will be crawling yet.
- I have discovered that rolling over on my tummy doesn't get me anywhere. So, I am spending more time on my back because I can scoot backwards and get across the entire living room in no time. I just dig my heals in the ground, lift up my butt and push myself backwards. My new nickname should be "Scooter".
- I have given Mommy and Daddy a new worry...Mommy came in to check on me early one morning last week and found me sleeping on my tummy! She got really scared and grabbed me to roll me over. I was mad she woke me up (but she was relieved). I think this is called "First-time parent panic!". Dr. Patten said if I am old enough to roll over, I am old enough to be able to breathe when I sleep on my tummy. That doesn't mean Mommy has to like it!
- I have also really started to like my puppy, Emma. She is so cute and soft. I just like to grab her sweet, droopy ears. Emma doesnt seem to mind, but Mommy tells me, "No, no...nice touches" (whatever that means).
I attend my first wedding a few weeks ago. My cousins, Sam and Amanda, got married outside in eastern Iowa. It was hot, but a beautiful ceremony. Congratulations to Sam and Amanda!
Well, that is all. I have really enjoyed my adventures so far. Not sure when I will updated again as Mommy and Daddy are getting ready for fall classes to begin which means they will be really busy at work over the next couple of weeks. Mommy is taking a class this fall to continue her work for her Ph.D. So, Daddy and I will have Monday nights all to ourselves. Daddy is planning to sign us up for an infant swimming class later this fall. That will be fun to be in the water.
Speaking of water, Mommy was planning to have this update posted earlier this week until....the water starting flowing. At 4:45am Tuesday morning, our power went out. So Daddy was monitoring the sump pump. Mommy and Daddy were bailing it out with buckets for an hour (while I slept right through it all). After the power came back on, they thought they had won...until they turned around and saw water had backed up around our house and seeped in through the walls/floor....2 inches total in the carpet. After spending 1/2 the day cleaning that up, they were frustrated but ok. We didn't lose anything except a roll of Christmas wrapping paper.
Then, the rain started again that night at 9:15pm. We never lost power but the ground was so saturated that our sump pump again couldn't keep up. So, Mommy and Daddy were bailing water for an hour as they watched the water creep towards them. They ended up giving up on the bailing and found the water leveled out in the basement at 2-3 inches. This time getting into the good carpet in the 4th bedroom. Frustrated and feeling sorry for themselves, they went outside to cool off and pray for the rain to stop (it poured very heavy rain from 9:15-midnight). Once outside, they found their street was flooded (waist high water in the street and a lake up to the middle of their driveway). They also learned that most of their immediate neighbors had 2-3 inches up to a foot of water. Sadly one neighbor (house is at the lowest point in the street) had all the water from the street pressing in around his house. Finally the basement window caved in and 4-5 FEET of water came rushing into their basement. A total loss. Sad. Daddy helped them fill sandbags in order to keep that water from rising.
The next morning, our fantastic neighbors sprung into action. First thing in the morning, we had several neighbors (those without water) at our door offering to help haul stuff out of the basement. They even brought the football team in to help around town. They helped us carry out rubbermaid containers, a couch and chair (which we lost) and tear out and dispose of the dripping wet carpet and carpet pads. As we continued to work in the basement, our neighbors also dragged us out for lunch. A couple of them had ordered 10 pizzas and sodas, juice and water. They knew none of us were eating or drinking enough to get through all the clean up.
(We will try to post pics of the water and such. For those who are watching the news/weather channel, our town, Gilbert, is located 4 miles north of Ames (not near a river or creek).
