Uh, oh…Mommy said I sound like a baby seal!!

I wasn’t feeling good with a stuffy nose and cough all weekend (March 20 & 21) while Grandma and Grandpa Kramer visited. After they left, Mommy and I took a nap from 2-5pm on Sunday, March 21st. Mommy woke up to me coughing…but she said I sounded like a baby seal. Uh, oh! She called it a 'croup' cough. Since I didn’t have a fever, was eating just fine and had my 2 month check up in the morning, I didn’t have to go the doctor that night. Mommy and Daddy did everything they could to make me feel better including bundling me up to go out in the cool night air, a hot steamy shower and a humidifier. Mommy even slept in the twin bed in my room that night…although I don’t think she slept a wink. She was worried about me 'cause she loves me so much! We went to the doctor the next morning and as usual, we arrived 30 minutes early and got in right away. Dr. Patten didn’t like the sound of my cough and how hard I was working to breathe, so she ran a test for RSV and had Mommy give me a breathing treatment. Since the breathing treatment didn’t help, they knew it wasn’t RSV or Bronchialitis. So, they decided to admit me to the hospital. If Mommy and Daddy were scared, they didn’t show it. We were admitted to the hospital at 10:30am. After putting 3 stickers with wires coming out of them on my tummy and wrapping something around my big toe with a wire coming out of it (pulse-ox), I got another breathing treatment (with epinephrine) that worked wonders. I felt better immediately. Then, I had to get another boo-boo…an IV. Mommy was there when they put it in…and she said I was a brave and tough little guy. But then, they taped the IV wire and my fingers all together...it looked like a cast on my arm. I didn’t like that very much. See my picture below! The pediatric nurses were so nice. Turns out I was their only patient...no other kids on the whole floor. After they put some medicine in my IV (a steroid), I got to snuggle with Mommy and Daddy. Mommy ran home around 4:30pm to get an overnight bag to stay with me...daddy was going home to stay with the puppy. I saw my doctor at 6pm and she thought I sounded a lot better, but she wanted me to stay overnight just to be sure. Around midnight the nurse came in to change my stickers and reattach everything. Then, she helped Mommy and I get settled into Mommy's bed. The nurse told Mommy to call her when she wanted to put me in my hospital crib, but we both fell asleep. Mommy got to hold me all night while I slept...it was heavenly to be in her arms and hear her heartbeat all night (and Mommy got some much needed sleep too). My doctor woke us up around 7am and she said I sounded so good that I could go home (picture above w/o the monitors on my tummy). So, we got ready, picked up some medicine and were home by 10:00am. Awww...back in my own bed. That was one of my biggest adventures yet!
